I am looking for more information on the handle scales. How old are the barrels? What beer was in the barrels? How did the idea of using the barrels for handle scales come about? Any other history or tidbits would be great! Thanks!

I have no answers for you, but I just ordered a whittler in this handle material. Can't wait to get it!
If one were to make the assumption that the barrels pictured in the catalog are the same barrels used to make the handles, they're not very old. Looks like the barrel bands are stainless steel. It is certainly unique. First time I've ever heard of a knife handle made of old beer barrels. But I believe the wood is oak, so that's not all that unusual...
Good looking knives!

I don't have any information on this, but maybe Tobias can chime in.

Boker should get a 'greenie' recycling award. Beer barrel staves to handles, the armor belt of the Tirpitz to blades, etc. Interesting - and diverse!

Guten Morgen!!!
Gentleman, those are some very specific questions, that are hard to answer.

We do not buy the barrels from one certain brewery, that we can say a special type of beer was in this barrel. ( I would suggest not to lick the handle to try it ;) )
And even the age cannot be specified, we get the barrels offered, that they do ot use anymore.

We always try to develop new ideas, that are unique and innovative. And the oak barrels are a good basis for a handle. So, we tried it and it holds up great as a handle.

But maybe we will include next time a bottle of German beer with each knife :D
