I stopped off for a pint of Real Ale in the Prince of Wales pub, Moseley.

The building is around 200 years old and it's claim to fame is that the young J. R. R. Tolkien used to meet up with his girlfriend here. His childhood home was about a mile away in Wake Green Road and he later lived and went to school in Edgbaston, a couple of miles in the other direction.

The interior is rare in that it has managed to avoid any major alterations or makeovers in the last 100 years, if not longer. There is an impressive array of hand-pulled Real Ales for sale.

The bar front appears to have a considerable amount of age to it, though the top is fairly new.

A refreshing pint of "Sad Bastard" ale.

The real fire was most welcome!

More pub reviews when I get round to it! :D
