When I first started collecting knives, I had just gotten out of the Army. I was still very much in a "tactical" mindset I guess - as almost all of my first Benchmades where black bladed partially serrated blades.
Well, I've grown out of the tactical mindset and really like orange scales now. Kinda the exact opposite of tactical I suppose.
Anyway. I have a thing for oval hole Griptilians in 154CM.
(A little history now) When the Griptilian first came out with the oval hole, the blade steel was 440C. About 2006 the blade steel was changed to 154CM. Around 2007 the oval hole went away in favor of the "Spydie" round hole we all know and love. This makes the oval hole Grips in 154CM kinda rare IMHO. So I collect them.
When I found a "take off" set of orange scales on the Bay - I had to have them. I've had the scales for a while waiting to find a knife worthy of a brand new set of scales. Well it turns out I've had that knife all along.
Without further ado I bring you the "before"

And now the after.

So what do you think?
I'll be much more likely to carry the after version.
I used a simple green Scotch scrub pad to remove the coating on the blade. (BD1 it's called I believe) it came off rather easily.
Feel free to post your before and after pics and let's see what you've got!
