Before I pull the trigger... got a quick question

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be any issue, but I figured I'd run it by you guys first before I pull the trigger as mentioned in the title. Anyway, I'm about to buy my first Sebenza. Well, I say my first, but I guess technically it's my second. I won a small plain Sebbie several years ago after participating in a pass-around/drawing on this forum. I ended up selling it, because I felt it was smaller than I cared for, and I guess I was just a little underwhelmed by it. Anyway, I have the fever again, and am ready to purchase on. Problem is, I really want one with an inlay, but I also want the Insingo blade that KnifeArt carries. Since I've yet to see any Insingos with inlays, it's gonna take a blade swap to get what I want. What I'm wanting to do is, purchase a large Micarta inlay AND a large Insingo, and just do a blade swap after I get them. Then the 'new' plain regular Sebbie 21 will go on the auction block to find a new home, likely at a slight hit in price since the signed card won't match the actual knife description wise. Anyway, my question before I do this is, can the blades be swapped without any issue from one set of handles to another? I'm pretty sure they can, but I need to ask before I drop over $800. TIA.

If you want the Insingo blade profile and handles with inlays, I suggest that you simply wait 45 or so days, until 01/01/2011. That is the date from which the Insingo can be ordered direct from CRK, meaning that you can have the best of both worlds. By ordering direct, you can also specify other options, such as double thumb lugs, silver hardware (as opposed to blue), and so on, depending on what you prefer.

Yeah, but I'm an impatient one. ;) I just need to know if the blade will swap ok. I'm pretty sure the actual blades are ground from the same blanks, and pretty sure the handles on the Insingo are no different than the handles on the Inlay (other than the inlay of course), so I see no reason the swap will be problematic. If for some reason I can't sell the plain blade Sebenza on the used market, then I guess I'll just keep it. I just really want the inlay, and really like the Insingo blade profile. Why they haven't offered them already is beyond me.

I'm not certain that a "blade swap" would work out exactly as you are hoping. I have read that Chris fine tunes each handle and blade to match each other perfectly. So a simple swap may not result in two perfect matches.

Short answer? No.

Long answer? Probably not. CRK does not recommend performing blade swaps due to the high tolerances.

You could buy the Insingo, and then a knfie with whatever inlay you want. You could swap the non-locking side with no issues, just make sure to use whichever washers and bushing came with the blade and locking side. You'd have to deal without having an inlay on the non-locking side.

I would not spend $800 and take a chance on a swap that may or may not fit.
01/01/2011 Patience is a virtue my friend:D
