I have a RAT3 in D2 on it's way to me. This will be my first D2 blade. I have a Sharpmaker, will this sharpen the D2 up okay? From what I understand, D2 holds an edge incredibly well but is also pretty hard to sharpen. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

My only experiance with D2 is a few queens,I don't use a sharpmaker,I normaly freehand on diamond or oilstones and finish with ceramic rods,I'd say if you have to rebevel the blade much, a coarse stone would be really usefull at speeding things up.

D2 is not hard to sharpen if it is well matched to the use of the blade and the geometry is optomized. The biggest problems with production D2 is that the edge is usually far too thick and thus often it needs to be reduced. The Sharpmaker does not do that well.
