This is an idea I've had for little more than a week and since I lost sleep thinking about it I thought I'd better see if I can make it work. The whole bar in the picture is what I started with. What I found out was I should have started with 4 1/2" of steel instead of 6". I cut the spikes off a couple times while forging it so the next one should be alot simpler. The head is ruffly 9" now. To me this is about as fantisy as I can come up with.

in a nutshell...what steps do you go through to forge it? hole first? last? (etc.)

Daniel, I make the slot first by drilling six, 1/4" holes and then cleaning it up with a carbide burr. Then I'll use my fullering tool and do both the indents and then forge the spikes. The next one will be alot easier since I know what size to start with and won't have to forge out way more steel than I need. Next I drift the eye and after that give the spikes a 1/4 turn so the ridges are vertical and horizontal.

Wow Raymond, that's rather cool. :D Looks ready made for puncturing armor or whatever else gets in the way. Can't wait to see this one finished!

I think you should make a step by step tutorial with lots of pictures. cant wait to see more pics when it is done. JIM

What IG said, "one bad Mother!" indeed! Hurry up and finish it so we can see it. Makes me want to get off my but and try something I've been thinking about for a couple of years.

Terry, This is where I got the steel: http://www.metalworld.com/trade/aa008386.html The worst thing about me going to get the steel is I can never remember exactly how to get there so I end up going to Gilmer Woods thats less than a mile from Pacific Machine and Tool Steel. Once I drop a wad at Gilmer I can find the steel place.

Will, If I've been thinking about trying something for a couple years I normally can't remember what the heck it was. I forged another tomahawk after the spiked thing yesterday and I'm wanting to do a couple more before I start doing any finish. I've got alot of room in my heat treat over so I might as well do a full batch.
