Before YouTube?

If YouTube disappeared I honestly wouldn’t even notice. Nothing against it, I just have no interest in watching videos on a computer for any reason. I’m perfectly happy to read a book or watch a film for hours on end, but I can’t sit through more than 20 seconds of a YouTube video, I don’t know why.

Batoning, yes. I did that long before it was cool or there was even a term for it. Me and my brother used to just say “we need to whack this wood down to slats” and proceed to “baton” it even though we didn’t know we were doing the latest, newest, coolest thing way back then.

Stabbing cars, nah. I have enough trouble fixing the damn things and keeping em running. No need to stab one. We always used to hear back then that some cold steel tanto could stab through a hood but we never found anybody to volunteer theirs for testing. Couldn’t afford the knife anyway.

Also we all “had a knife”. Literally we all had one pocket knife and carried just that, no rotation except for which jeans you were gonna stick it in that day.

Before Youtube, there was only Lynn Thompson.

Before youtube that would be the realm of cold steel dvds which my friends and i would watch and laugh at.

Before Electronic Media ! ( Pre Internet )
The world pretty much revolved around magazines !
And those magazines were all about making money .
And to make money , you made advertisers happy !

Yeah ... Looking back at some of the tripe that was written in magazines !!!
I can only imagine that money spoke louder than the truth ! Because having played with some of those RAVE products ... The only thing I could personally rave about is how bad they were !
This pretty much goes for everything I read from Outdoor magazines / car / bike / RC / model airplanes and so forth !
I will say that many of those magazines were very opinionated in favour of the product ( sponsor ) .

These days with the Internet and thousands of sources for information , we are still inundated with opinion !
And many so called reviews are little more than product advertising !
How many times have I been bitten by a mad dog when buying a RAVE knife ? ( More times than I care to think about )
And how many times has a budget knife kicked more expensive knives to the curb ?

Looks & feelings have little to do with performance !
Butt and it's a huge butt ! A lot of people are all about Looks and feelings and don't give a hoot about performance ! ( I'm the opposite - to me performance matters )
To each their own I guess ..

youtube = Massive amounts of opinion and some facts .
There is so much , your spoiled for choice !
And the best part , you don't have to pay for it !
So just like reading your fav rag , just pick your fav Utubers ! ( it's free ) Do I have to think about $$ I spent reading magazines ? For about 20 years ( pre internet ) I was a magaholic !

Before youtube, but now immortal on youtube

I’d have loved to been a fly on the wall for that pitch.
“420 stainless? Guys, that’ll never sell. We have to jazz that up a bit”
“Yeah, we need something sciency”
“How about ‘molecular’?”

Also, I wonder how many people returned the knife and kept the sheath and sharpening stone vs the number of those knives are in the sheath with the sharpening stone in a landfill.
