First of all, many many thanks to all the pros who helped all the beginners make their first ever knives and to all those who donated materials and to the Boss who allowed us unfettered use of his shop. The names include Ethan, Matt, Todd, James, Eric (with his forge) and possibly others. Please forgive me if I have overlooked anyone.

I surely hope we will soon see pictures on this thread of the knives as they are completed - and soon! Mine is getting close and I will try to have a pic up before too long.

Thanks again to everyone who made this possible; it was surely one of the highlights of the weekend.

OK - here's the knife:

I traced a BK-11 and made the handles from Lacewood. I'm kind of pleased - the inside curves on the handle were tough because I cannot find my dremel tool so I used a round file and then sandpaper wrapped around the file. Finished with some Tung Oil. In the picture, the handle looks all gouged or deeply scratched but that is just the picture - the scales are very smooth. The blade is somewhat sharp already but the edge still needs work but that I can do in the next few days.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Colonel. It was truly great fun to watch so many people make their very own blades for the first time.

Many thanks to Ethan for hosting us and to all the sponsors, instructors and participants  I'm very grateful to have been part of it :)

I look forward to seeing more pics... hint hint!! :D

Thanks Col.
and many thanks to Ethan for letting us share this craft together. I have made quite a few knives but always in the solitude of my shop, so this was a welcomed change and added a bit of fun and good companionship to a day 'round the grinder. Thanks to all and I am excited to see the finished products.

the "bang around the anvil" was fun too!!! 3-4 guys taking turns with the tongs, hammers and hot steel looked (and felt like) a really neat game to play. I'm gonna finish uploading some pics and post a thread about Gathering scores.

i am looking forward to seeing the pics. this is one of the coolest things i have seen. very cool thing to do indeed.

Beautiful job! Lacewood is a gorgeous wood for sure, I've seen musical instruments (ie, acoustic guitars) made from it. Looks great as a knife handle.

Very Nice Col. That came out great! dang that was fun! I still have the first knife I ever made and still use it too.

Sweet looking blade Sir!

Sounds like many of us missed an awesome time.

I really like the way the bloodwood turned out. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Looks great to me Dynamicmoves. And I hope we will see more pictures soon. This was a great experience.

Lol, awesome to see these knives finished. Loved helping out. I even got a chance to play with the forge and make my own knife in between trying to help out. It was on its way to be a cool double edge dagger, but since it was all just play for me, I experimented with some heat treating processes and....... well, ...... a picture says a thousand words.............Epic fail, :grumpy:

what did you use to quench it? cold salt water?
warm (120-150F) canola or peanut oil works about as well as parks 50 on 1084, and doesn't smell as bad.
