Does anyone know of a good knife making book for some one who has never made a knife before.

Thanks,
sutallee

as a beginner myself the big three that get suggrested are The wonder of knifemaking, $50.00 knife shop and how to make knives.....All three are good books in there own right but if I had just one to pick form I personally would get the wonder of knifemaking. It isnt as specific in some areas but is very good at a good introduction to most aspects of knifemaking. Frankly I think I did the right thing by getting all 3 of them because they all really compliment one another and cover pretty much everything

This site has unlimited resourses and links. check out Dan Gray's thread at the top of the shop talk forum. Then get all the books.

If I had to choose just one, it would be Custom Knifemaking by Tim McCreight.

Rob!

Wyne Godard's the wonder of knifemaking, $50.00 knife shop and Ed Fowler's Knife Talk 1&2 are what I'd recomend. Of course I've learned something from every book I've gotten and treasure all of them. They are litteraly worth there wieght in gold.

While the books are wonderful, I'd have to second Mark's reccomendation of links first. Also- google and the search function are your friends. You'll learn TONS from the free material that is online, and from the question asked by others on these boards.

As far as books go, it depends on what you're after. The $50 Knife Shop provides a bit on both forging and stock removal. The Wonder of Knifemaking and How to Make Knives are both good aswell.
