I have a Blur that is getting kind of dirty and gritty inside and I want to take it apart to clean it. I've never taken a knife apart before so I'm a little nervous that I'll screw it up. I have some questions:

1. The screws look like little torx screws, is that the only tool I'll need?

2. When I take it apart, will any springs go flying across the room? Is there anything under tension when the blade is open/closed?

3. Will it be obvious how to put it back together?

4. What kind of oil/grease should I use?

The handle screws are torx (#6?). The pivot screw is most likely a torx too, probably of a different size (#8?). When the blade is inside the handle there will certainly be tension in the spring, and it probably will fly off. When the blade is deployed, there is no tension. From the way you've come across, I don't think you'll have any problems putting it back together. Just don't lose/crease the washers if there are any. As for grease, anything will do. You put some in the interior area of the handle where the spring goes to keep it from rattling when the spring is not loaded. Some people use vasoline, even. For the pivot, you can use an appropriate lubricant. Some people use graphite, mineral oil, some gun products... I use mineral oil, but not all the time.

Is that an assisted opener ? If so I would not take it apart unless you think you understand the mechanics to put it back together.
If it is not AO then go for it , although another option if you do not want to take it apart is to get a can of compressed air like for PC's and hobby'ists and blow that badboy clean.

The lube question is multi faceted and opined , so I'm going to say buy a can of Breakfree CLP http://www.break-free.com/ and you'll have the c-l-p for all your needs , guns , knives , squeaky doors - you name it.

Vaseline?? I definately would not use that in any knife I carry. I can only imagine the lint (at best) or other crap that would get caught up in there...
