Yesterday morning my 2 y/o daughter let our dog out while I was in the shower. She opened the door and he just took off. I realized he was gone after she comes up to me and says "Remi go outside!". He had about a good 1/2 hour head start roaming the neighborhood. He also didn't have his collar and tags on. I called the PD and reported him lost and I called Animal Control as well. I then packed up the kids and was out looking for him for about 2 hours when I got a call on my cell from Animal Control that she had my dog. He was found by a neighbor 2 blocks over and being that he didn't have his collar she brought him in. I went to go pick him up (bail him out) and had to pay $25 to have him released (posted his bail). He is now a 2 time "guest" at the Animal Control Lock-up. I had my camera and took this mugshot of his sorry ass.

Wrongfully accused and jailed by the MAN!

Seriously, glad you got your dog back, that sucks big time when they get away.

I can't blame him though. If my daughter didn't let him out he wouldn't be in the pokey. He does look pathetic doesn't he? My daughter should be the one that looks like that. She thought it was funny. I reprimanded her about it. I'm just glad he's back home. After last years episode when the leafblowers forgot to close the gate and he got hit by a car I was very worried about him getting hurt again. I don't think I could go through that again.

next time he does that, you let him spend the night in there to think about what he did. ;)

It's tough, no matter how hard you try to raise them right, seeing one of yours end up behind bars is tough!

Next time let us know and we can organize a "FREE REMI" vigil!

I got my shirt ready for next time. :D

Glad you found him...hey is there lojac systems for dogs????:D

Kinda.... Ken, please look into getting your dog microchipped. Avid microchips are the ones we use at my clinic. There are other brands, and the readers are pretty much universal.
Since you are a fireman Ken, how do you feel about putting a simple hook and eye set-up at the top of your door frame to prevent your two year old from opening the door? We did that at our house for much the same reasons, my youngest likes to open doors and occasionally my oldest gets up at night. Neither are tall enough to reach and undo the hook.

Yep, it's pretty common practice, especially with purebreds that might be a more appealing target for thieves. Chips are a little less expensive, IIRC, but the tattoos are more permenant, IE harder to remove.

I never heard of daggy tattoos. How would you see the tat under all the hair?

In many places, when animal control picks up your dog they insert a chip. It makes sense since so many strays are "repeat offenders".

That little guy looks very sad. He definitely needs a collar and tags. There have been instances here when dogs have been put to sleep within hours of being "arrested", before the owners even found out their dog was at the pound. And plenty of loose dogs, especially purebreds, are quickly "adopted" by other people who don't bother to call animal control.

Good Luck,
Bob

Driving home yesterday, I saw a woman picking up a dog that was obviously hit, and I panicked thinking it was one of mine. I feel your pain, glad everything's ok.

I was going to say the same thing about the door lock.

I had these flip over things mounted at the top of the doors when my kids were little; much more secure than a hook and eye set up. They mounted in the doorjamb, and flipped back when not in use. Worked very well.

Ken...Just feel damn lucky that your little daughter didn't follow your dog out the door..

Does New Jersey have a "three strikes" law like California? If so, Remi may do hard time if he gets busted again.

I remember the last time, Ken.....
glad it worked out better this time.

I would definately look into getting him chipped.

As far as that goes, I have 2 1/2 year-old twin girls. I'm looking into getting them chipped, too.

Cute dog!:)

have you considered one of those plastic doorknob covers that are child proof? you have to squeeze the two sides to grip the doorknob or it will just spin.
