Lily (Andy’s youngest) daughter got a start on making her first knife last week. Andy wanted her involved in all the processes.

She chose the Pocket Kephart…(smart little girl)

A little guidance from her Dad

Lily was a little intimidated by having her fingers so close to the belt

Not ideal but we didn’t have a knife shop

Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic of the completed knife. Maybe Andy will post one up.

Thanks folks. Lily is my daughter that has always said she wants to make knives and I thought 11 was old enough to start. The good news is that she really got into it. She liked it so much that, in fact, that she came in with me on Monday (the school is having fall break) to grind some more. (She had to get up with dad at 5 am, so that was a sacrifice.) I'll try to get pics of the knife this evening! Thanks for posting this Phillip.

Wow! I’m honored I got to witnessed part of this on Friday, though I didn’t know it at the time. I was a Trackrock and had never been before nor ever met Andy. I watched a young man working with a little girl at a grinder and made conversation with him a while, then introduced myself and he did likewise. It was ANDY ROY! I didn’t know the little girl was his daughter since there were numerous folks working with young people at almost every station. It was a pleasure to watch all of this and to meet ANDY and others.
