Behind The Scenes @ Fiddleback Forge

Just a friendly reminder these knives are for “Preview” not “Pre-sale”.

Allen had his boy at the shop last Friday. He was busy tooling away on a scrap piece of leather

Our “Iron in the Hat” band saw is trying to bite the dust but Allen & David will not have any of that, It’s probably due though, There is no telling how many feet of Bullseyes and pin stock this thing has cut through.

More to come as time allows!

It is nice to see the next generation showing interest in what Dad does for a living. This country is sorely lacking in apprentices for manufacturing trades in my opinion. I hope that you continue feeding the curiosity of the next generation and mentoring them in the skills necessary to make wonderful tools by hand from scratch.

I am so proud to have Hannah working in the shop. Some part of my brain hopes that one of my girls takes this business over some day. Lily talks about it sometimes. (Shes 9) Hannah sanded 3 handles yesterday. So far she's still slow, but her finish is perfect. Thats cool. She is also flattening scales, which is one of the toughest jobs we do, and ALWAYS gets complaints from newbs. The flattening job is one every person tries to innovate. I'll catch them at a grinder trying to figure out how to do the step with machines. Not possible IMO. And believe me I tried. Nothing is as accurate as flattening by hand. She hasn't complained.
