Behind The Scenes @ Fiddleback Forge

Just a friendly reminder these knives are for “Preview” not “Pre-sale”.

Fall is in full swing here, minus the forecast for a high of 75 degrees on Friday

Aluminium quench plates insure the blades stay straight as they cool.

Thor made a surprise appearance in the shop today. Cody has to take him in for his shots today. It’s much different than Ivy chillin’ on my desk.

Ivy has her own “personal” heater today.

I’m going to try and keep track of this Bushcrafter & document it as it moves along towards Fiddleback Friday.

I believe this is what Andy refers to as a “2-cup” handle”
IMG_9835-vi.jpg

The “cup” at the front of the scales, plateau, 2nd cup

Here Andy is making the “cups” less pronounced and shaping it into what we are accustomed to when we pick up a Fiddleback Forge knife.

Sorry for the lack of knives in progress pics so far. I’ll try and get some today.

More to come as time permits.

Thanks for looking!

The Aluminum block is interesting. I always wondered how they didn't warp. At what temp and how long does it take to temper?

That very bottom knife in the last picture - is that bushboot handle, zircote? Tapered tang?

This may be the knife that causes me to cave in... resistance is futile.

Lol, I'd like to see a shot of Thor chillin on your desk :)

Oh no (I'm doomed). This is what I've been looking for...

So, new guy question. Is this a preview of the knives coming up this Friday (prior to them hitting the fotki site, in the presale preview), or are these knives that will be sold in another week or so?

If I remember correctly...it can be some of each...

My experience is that while it can be a preview of a few things to come this Friday, it is mostly often a week out or so. Like Brian said...

And to TRfromMT, might I presume this means Montana? I spent 3+ years there in the Flathead, Helena, and down the Bitterroot near Victor. You out in the Big Sky?

if you are looking for a Bushboot I have a feeling you are going to be disappointed.

I was trying to highlight Mistwalker's reply to your question and point out his guess was correct.

If you are looking for a Bushfinger you are in a good spot though.

This is a thread for folks to get an idea what we are doing every week. We are making 35 knives a week. Friday mornings Allen & myself will go through the ones that made it all the way through the process and set the batch for Friday.

The other knives will go into our Reserves, which this time of year (Holiday season) a good many head there. The other knives will go out to our Dealer s.

Ready for the finish grinds and then it's off to get detailed

Great pics Phillip. Really enjoy getting to see the process - I like how this set shows some of the sanding, tapering, and the scandi sharpening.

And Ivy. Can't forget Ivy.

This pic makes me cringe thinking "what if" .. What if that belt took a hold of the tip? I remember when i was a kid sneaking into my dad's shop and doing some things on the grinder where I was lucky to have not gotten injured. Question: Do those gloves offer any special protection?

Thanks for the pics as always!!

Nope
they give you 1/2 a millisecond to stop what you are doing or..........................blood loss follows

no problem!
