Just a friendly reminder these knives are for “Preview” not “Pre-sale”.

The Boss has her own chair.

You know it’s bound to be cool if Andy is taking the steel from bar stock to completion. New color Dykem….hmmm???

De-burring the sharp edges from profiling.
We do this immediately after Profiling. I guess Andy drills first.

Using a height gauge to scribe the grind line and taper line.

Off to the flat platen for the pre-heat treat 45’s and grinds.

You can see the grind lines from the height gauge on the edge.

Thanks for the Pic's really cool!

Great post Phillip! I always enjoy seeing the steps in production. You guys make it look to easy though!

That's not a chair......that is the Shop Queen's throne !

Cool grinding pics.......BTW, was that Andy working on his little experiment ?

What's that in the first pic?
I love the shape and proportion, a lonestar variation?

that's a great point "Ivy's Throne"

im not sure if we are sharing that yet. If I get the ok from Andy, I will report back. It might just turn out to be an just that, an experiment.

it's still the Lonestar EDC in the foreground, it's just re-vamped.

Bocote over Natural Neckmuk? I'll bet that'll look fabulous. I hope to be able to grab a small knife in 3/32" soon; a Neckmuk would certainly fit that bill!

Is the new Dykem to specify the steel for heat treat or for marking / grinding ... or is it new Dykem for all steal types? I forget but if it comes off prior to heat treat, wouldn't you need something similar to an A-hole? If you will need something long term like an A-hole to specify steal type may I suggest two holes and that the term "taint" might work nicely? It t'aint A2 and it t'aint O1 :D

The forge just kicked it up a notch!
Holy cow can't wait to see what's in store!!!

hahahaha

The new Dykem is used as an identifier of the new steel for heat treat purposes. After the heat treat the Dykem is all gone & the A-hole was the identifier post heat treat for A2 vs O1.

We have talked about phasing out the A-hole since we are have not been ordering O1. I really haven't paid attention, the A-hole may already be gone.

It's been a tough morning and I needed that. Read it while on a conference call and it's a good thing I was on mute.

LOL. We would (and there is a pin) call it an M4 hole. These will have an assymetrically positioned beauty mark pin on all of these so that the knife will be easy to identify as M4 steel. It is an experiment to see whether we are able to work this material at all. Convex is the limiting factor with us using super steels. M4 would not ever become our staple. I really love using A2. I find it has a glow, stays a bit prettier, and I like the edges I get from A2. Not to mention how well it spalts.

I like M4 a lot. All the M4 I have has a coating on it though so I'm curious to see how it patinas. Would love to grab one of these.

M4 is great for thin cross sections, but tends to chip when very hard. I'd love to see it on a slicer.

I can confirm that the A-hole is gone, Andy gave me the OK to start leaving it out the the drilling a few weeks ago. Also that orange Dykem is seriously cool looking.
