Almost 4 years ago, I came across a large ball peen hammer in a forgotten corner of my dad's basement.
Well, on November 12th, it finally began life as an entirely new sort of tool. :)

Working together makes things go easier. Here we are hitting a hammer with a hammer with a hammer (according to internet lore, we should both be dead now):

Looking more axe-like now...

This crappy picture is of me channeling the power of the Super Moon into the eye of the axe, focused through an amethyst crystal ball...because why the hell not?

I had bought a 14" engineer's hammer handle for it, but after I carved it to fit the eye, I saw that it had a slight warp. Not good.

So, remember this face I carved into a walking stick I made last woods outing?

I made it into the handle for the axe.

Assembly time!
JB Weld, wooden and metal wedges, and 2 brass screws; should be solid.

I went to a very historic church here, and got the axe blessed in the Rosary Chapel (the main church building is closed pending $9000000 in repairs):

But does it work?
Seems like it.
I chopped down this dead tree that had seasoned into a damn tough piece of wood:

You're a good looking dude (just sayin).

Good looking stud with a righteous hammer.... Lock up your daughters and ice chests I say.

That's cool as hell, Stab. You'll have to keep track so you can chronicle the adventures of this piece for us.

All kneel before DoomHammer!

I think someone is practicing for forged in fire. Huh? am I right? Just kidding. Looks awesome. I bet it took awhile to get that much steel moving.

cool looking resulting piece.

Thanks!

I was amazed at how much effort and time it took to move that much steel.
This is the first thing I forged where it started as a large "lump" of material. Prior efforts involved bar stock, which was a lot easier.
Each time is a learning experience though.

Glad to have an actual forge to use this time, rather than the improvised ones used for prior projects.
It opens the doors for making more neat things as this year progresses, most likely starting in spring.

Great work, Stabman. Looks like it turned out really nice.

I'm happy with it.

Checked out the edge, and it held up pretty well.
It will require a bit of touching up (looks like I hit a very small stone that was in the bark of that dead tree), but nothing major. :)

Very cool project Stabs!!
Came out great and I'm SURE it will feel so much better working with a tool you made yourself! Great feeling!
I will not, however comment on your looks brother!! Nope nope nope!!

Just as well...that might start getting weird. :D

That is very cool! I love the painted face.

I thought it was a nice touch too. :)

Now I just have to get some leather to make a proper sheath for it.
