Your opinions on Gerber Gator w/154 CM blade. Comfort, cutting capability, cost/value, and durability.

Thanx in advance. :)

I have the Gerber Gator with ATS-34. Thinly ground at the edge, holds it's edge very well and has the most comfortable handle of any folder I've ever held. It is not a pocket-knife however, because it is somewhat thick in the handle and is intended to be sheath carried like a Buck 110. You can carry it in the pocket the same as a 110 it's just that it has no pocket clip and the Kraton covered Zytel handle grips the cloth in the pocket a bit making extraction a little slow. That has been my experience...

If your in the market for a sheath carried folder, this is the best value right behind the venerable 110.

I have handled (but never owned) one of these and I agree that it has one of the Most comfortable handles I have ever felt. It has an extremely strong lock and if you get the 154CM or the ATS steel then you really have a winner!!!

Are there better knives for the same money, that's up to you to decide based on what you want and what you will be using the knife for. I'm sure if you ask for a comparison of this knife with some others in the same price range you will get some great feedback.

I have used quite a few of them.

I always thought it was one of the best values for the dollar in the knife market.

While certainly there are better or nicer knives out there, rating it on comfort, utility and dollar/value ratio it's pretty hard to beat.

It is one of the few, if not the only, blade in the Gerber line that flat ground to a nice edge.

The blade is a good skinning design, albeit a bit fat. They used to make a drop point 154CM Gator Mate...that was one of the best all around hunting blades to be had. It didn't sell well however, and I believe they discontinued it.

When I was in the Army back in the late 90's, if a soldier carried a knife it was either an Endura, 110, or a Gator.

I used one for years as a field dressing knife on deer, elk and bear. The handle is outstanding, very grippy, comfortable and easy to clean. The edge required more attention than I would have preferred, but it was very easy to sharpen, I think the blade was AUS-8 on mine. I paid about $30 for it at a sporting goods store nearly 10 years ago and was very satisfied with the value.
