hey hogs,

so i just hit 15,000 and we haven't had a giveaway in a little while. i really enjoyed putting on the last one i did, so figured we could do it again.

a couple months ago i had intended to give a new member 3 mora knives i had sitting in a drawer for his scout troop. he agreed it would be good for them to get used to using knives and couldn't afford to buy them all new knives. i thought he could use mine as sort of "community" knives, and not have to worry about the kids breaking or losing an expensive tool.

we exchanged a couple emails then he dissappeared. i tried again, but don't feel i should have to work so hard to give something away.

the rules: i'd like these to go to someone who could use them in a similar situation. maybe scouts or boy's/girl's group or similar. so just post your story here on how you could put these to good use.

the prizes: 3 mora knives w/ sheaths. all are new and never used. these are by no means expensive pieces, but they are all sharp and good quality. they would make great first knives for some youngsters.

im going to wait to see what kind of response this generates, then ill decide on a closing date.

im also going to post a link in w&s, these are available to anyone on the forums. well, except for a couple people on my ignore list.

depending on who responds, i may ask a couple hogs to help me judge this thing.

enjoy,

mark

Very nice of you to offer up some Mora knives. I gave two away last fall to two young guys at work who I introduced to hunting. They put in the hours to get their licenses and I brought them out Squirrel hunting to show them the proper way to field dress small game. Once I showed them how to do it they each shot another tree rat and I insructed while they got dirty, when all was said and done I gave them each the Moras they were using for the day.

Sorry for the hijack but your post reminded me of two young hunters.

exactly the type of story i hope to get here. thx!

someone with kids or nieces/nephews who they would like to introduce to the outdoors, scout leaders, parents, uncles, grandfathers, aunts, etc.

Very cool of you, MORIMOTOM!!:thumbup: Good idea!

That's a really great gesture buddy, gonna make someone very happy !!!!

I work with a few really young guys who are from the city life. I am an old man from the farms of Southern Ohio. I grew up out in the woods with guns and knives.

I want to take some of these guys out into the mountains for some camping lessons. How to start fires, how to gather wood, where and how to set up camp etc...Basic camping survival stuff...

I think they would be thrilled if the first lesson was how to use a knife and then be given one to take care of.

I spend my free time working with college students and my church youth (high school and jr. high) on outdoor skills and environmental preservation/conservation. We do a lot of camping in the Central TX area and do even more pick-up projects. So far, 1 of the 10 or so I work with has a knife. I am trying to find ways to afford more to keep in "stock" so they are available to use. That way I can also teach a little bit about safety and such and maybe, just maybe <fingers crossed> advance knife appreciation...

In the very near future, I will be working with the same type of youth on a full-time basis in a camp setting.

If I was to nominate someone else, I would have to go with pict. I am sure he could always use more blades for his gig in Belo Horizonte...

And, what a jagoff, I didn't bother thanking the one who put up the OP. So... Morimotom, thanks for yet another great idea/giveaway from a BF member...

Great giveaway, Mark.

I'm not in, but I wish I could be the benefactor not of one of these knives, but of the skills some of you are talking about. I need to go volunteer with the scouts or something. It's a shame that I live in a place where there's so little of that kinda stuff.

Anyway, good luck to those who enter. It's a great giveaway, and a good opportunity.

Btw Mark, you might want to consider putting a link to this thread in your signature so you get more involvement.

Good luck.

That's really good of you. I think Moras make good starter/practice/learning knives. And I have 2 of the 3 you're giving away. They're great.

I have two young boys, 4 and 5 that are getting a little knife instruction from dad right now. We go hiking and camping where I teach them WSS skills - and knives like these would be great for them.

Here we are learning how to set dead fall traps in the fall:

If you don't have any better offers (as we certainly don't need them) I can use the blue and red ones for the boys!

Thanks for the kind offer.

Mark,
While I am not looking to participate, I would be happy to lend a hand judging if you need some help or a second opinion. Just let me know.

I have two cousins (twins) in a Town called Tomohawk KY. They are boyscouts and are doing there first year of hunting Whitetail this year down there. Good boys but there mom (my cousin) and her husband dont have much money. She has a heart condition and stays home with them and there little sister and the dad is stove up from a piece of mining equipment falling and crushing his feet (he's a coal miner). He probably cant take them out this year so my Father and I who go down every year plan on taking them.

The only knives they currently have are matching Kershaw Skylines I bought them last year when I found out they didnt have a "decent" pocket knife. I know the boys (Keenan and Braden) would greatly appreciate anything given to them.

I will be going down with my Parents to visit the family for Fourth of July and will be taking them fishing and camping while down there.

Thanks for the opportunity!

i think these two are the most deserving, so i will send the red and blue to barrabas for his nephews. they are both the same model only different colors for the twins. and i would like them to have them available for july 4, so ill end this today.

and the orange to dougo83 to use with his church group.

pm me your addresses and ill get them shipped out in the next few days.

Man, it's a shame you didn't get more interest in this giveaway, but I'm glad that you found some people who can use them.

Good on you, brother.

Congrats to Barrabas and Dougo83. I hope they are used in good health.

Jason

PS: Mark, did you ever use that gorgeous orange banned SFNO, or is that a queen?

Sure it will! We Knife Knuts must always live in hope.

This was an excellent give-away, sir. Sorry I couldn't participate -- a combination of too busy at work to notice ... and too old to be in the right situation to participate.

Or perhaps too young?? All my own kids are grown up ... and no grandkids ... yet!!:D:eek:
