I finally went ahead and got re registered this morning. Been pretty busy getting stuff made up for blade. I finished up this knife yesterday and got a fairly decent picture of it but still not to good. The piece of steel was part of an ancient machine that was used to lift the bells up to the bell tower of an old church in Belgium. I was told this steel is at least 500 years old. By far the oldest steel I've ever messed with. Anyway the blade is 10 1/2" with an overall of 16 1/2". The handle is blackwood with a WI fitting and the guard was made from a piece of 1959 Nash/Metro leaf spring. There's also a real nice hamon there but not to noticable from the picture.

Here's a picture of the blade after hand forging. The rusty pitted chunk of steel is half of what I started with. Took the other half to a friends who hammered it out to a more usable size on his little giant. I cut that bar in half and did the one blade. The other half is the piece under the tang of the forging which is identicle to the one I forged the blade out of.

Raymond,
The materials you use sometimes, quite a few of the times I've had the pleasure of viewing, really intrigue me.Sometimes,as is this case, they just blow me away.:D
It's a very nice fighter. The handle/guard treatment works great together,I love the handle, blackwood as well.
For me the ferrule/fitting pulls it all together.
It has a hamon as well.
I think I can see it.
Almost forgot............Perfect size!

The new owner, whoever he may be,should be proud.

Doug:)

Vrey nice big one, Ray! It has your style all over it.

Thanks for the comments on the knife! I'm going to do another etch on the blade. Its just to darn bright for me plus it would go better with everything else besides the hamon would stand out more.
