I have some 4in wide, 5/16 thick, 5160 steel in the shop and decided to make something a little different from the usual huge camp knives I usually do. Came up with this little Belt Axe :) Figured it might get set down around a campsite so I used some bright orange G10 for the scales. It is 11 3/8in overall with a 2 7/8 cutting edge. The tang has been drilled out underneath the scales so it has a weight foward feel as an axe should. I wanted a poll on the back for the occasional tent peg or light hammering duties but I didn't harden that area. I am pondering what way to go with a sheath though as I would like to come up with something you could easily wear on a belt and draw the axe from with 1 hand. I am kinda happy with how it feels as it has enough weight to it to actually chop but it is still a fairly compact size. The area foward of the handle allows choking up on the head for use as an Ulu. I ground the blade as I would for a heavy duty camp knife so it should withstand chopping and still be used for cutting chores. Not that I really care about whether I scare the neighbors myself, but for those with sheeple around camp, a hatchet doesn't seem to spook em as much as a big knife would :D

So sweet!!!!

Love it, especially the use of the orange for the handles. Tan would also be sweet!

Hopefully you had some one water jet that for you........other wise, at 5/16th that is a ton of cutting and grinding to profile that sucker!
