Okay - its Sunday, long weekend and K Estela with his crazy, hilarious posts, are off on war (God luv him). So from the success of Outdoor Hats thread - lets talk about belt buckles.

Now in Guatemala - they love belt buckles. A simple belt buckle is not sufficient. You need a belt buck that is individualistic, rugged and says something like - this piece of metal is worthy to hold up my pants!

Unfortunately, I am still desperately trying to find a good belt. I've gone through 3 belts this year and nothing seems to last. I've had the pins fall off my buckles, I've had my belt delaminate and I've had a belt that actually ripped in two.

There are some creative folks out there, however, and this thread is devoted to the folks who came up with what seems like a good idea, but in hind sight proved not so practical. So here is my entry:

Now admittedly, a whiskey flaggon on your belt is a pretty darn good idea. But how do you use it? It's not like you can go to your best bud and say - Joe - would you like a drink? And then point south...... Then of course lets not even consider trying to take a drink without removing your gear :)

Pure cheese.

I do like my belt buckles. Just got a new one at the Maryland Chapter Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet. Montana silversmiths RMEF logo buckle.
KDG, I get my belts from Tandy or other Leather suppliers. I've had them last 10 to 15 years.

I'm going to be the voice of reason here and suggest that you look at your local Army surplus store, kgd, and pick up a webbing belt and good old steel-toothed buckle. It's what I use, and the things are tough as hell, and the buckle doesn't give like some others I've seen. Best of all, the total price is usually under five dollars.

With that out of the way...

Nobody messes with a guy that's got a Darth Vader belt buckle.

Thanks for the serious recommendations Scott and Kyp. I think I'm going to try this gun
belt (Ligar) supplied through Maxpedition - 2000 lbs and 300 lbs hole strength should do the trick. Never paid $68 for a belt before, but I suspect this one will last!

Honestly, that thing looks way over-engineered. And I can't stand the old hook/tongue-in-hole design, the holes were never at the right places for me. To each his own, though. If you do go for it, let us know how you like it! Here's what I was talking about: Cotton Web Belt. They come in nylon and heavy duty versions, too.

I've got an awesome one that says "NRA- Life Member" that I found at Goodwill for $1.

But seriously, if you need a good woods belt, look up Wilderness Tactical, their instructors belt. Good stuff.

Interesting that you brought up belt buckles. For the longest time I've wanted to make a survival belt, using Slatt's Rescue Belt as the basis. For the belt buckle, I want one out of magnesium with a ferro rod, horizontal top and bottom, or something like that. Still haven't worked out the kinks.

I use a 2 inch double rigging buckle and 12 ounce latigo. Just make my own up. They last a year or so.

I also have a 1 inch heavy bridle leather belt with a single rigging buckle that I string stuff on for field carry. The heavy 2 incher is my pants/kilt belt.

Held one before and to the unknowing it just looks like a standard belt. Sure it cost more but you get what you pay for.
Maybe he wants a leather type one because he wears for a business environment?

If your already open to spending a large bit of cash and need a leather belt that will take Anything you throw at it I highly recommend the belts from here

I linked straight to the bull hide one I have talked to more than one person who got their hands on one of his belts before he started his company circa the 1980's that have used them for a gunbelt every day since and they are still kicking.

Right on nick-nack. Yes I'd like to wear this belt with buisness casual and in the field. So did you try it on? I'm interested to learn if its overly stiff. I expect it to be more stiff as it is engineered as a gun belt and is still only 1.5" wide.

Knife-Geek thanks for the link. I have bookmarked it.

Sorry cant really help since Im not even old enough to get a job yet. The belt was a gift from me to my Uncle. He says its a solid belt and is stiff in the right ways. So if that means anything to you...
From what I could tell it is definately more 'plastic' rigid than your regular belt. BUt not a cheap plastic feel, it has the texture similar to leather. But Im also guessing the stiffness is bound to last longer as it is a gun belt.
