Here is the setup I bought to build a 2x72 belt grinder, if anyone has time can you take a look and tell if there are any glaring problems with this setup or if it should work well?

I know nothing regarding what I should be looking at as far as compatibility and output/input....but these looked cool at a reasonable price.

Thanks

Thank you Stacy, I changed the order for a 1ph in 3ph out unit. Are there any other problems you see with either of the devices? Any recommendations you have?

Yes, that Fugi should work just fine. I don't know anything about it, but here's the one I'm using on 3 grinders now:

The motor you've linked looks good, but here is I suspect the same motor just with a different brand name for a tad less. These are VFD rated.

Here is the same 2hp motor but in 1800 rpm, but it's $218 shipped: https://tinyurl.com/yy3yfnec

I Ken,
I looked at the one you are using but after reading through countless forums and recommendations I thought it necessary to go with 3PH out. I honestly can't say I understand why though....and $140 dollars is a lot to pay form something I dont understand....

To run a 3 phase motor you need three phase power. That is what the VFD does. It takes the normal single phase power in your shop and converts it to three phase. It also allows you to change the frequency (Hertz), so you can vary the speed.

The VFD you posted a link to is for industrial use where they already have 3 phase power - 3 phase in 3 phase out.
You want single phase in and three phase out.

The setup and use of a VFD and matching 3 phase motor is very simple. You connect the single phase 220 volt power line from the shop to the VFD powr IN ternminals, and run three wires and a ground from the powerr OUT terminals to the 3 phase motor.

Matt, you're right you do need 3 ph out, but as Stacy said you need 220 vac 1 ph in because that's what you have in your home - I expect that's the case anyway. Which item are you talking about with the $140?

One comment here, if you're really on a budget the $60-$80 Chinese VFD open enclosures work just fine, but a filter over air inlets is REQUIRED! to prevent metal grinding dust from getting inside. If the budget will allow it, then the NEMA 4X enclosed 27D drives are the VFD of choice.

If a used 3 ph motor can be found at a decent price, used is always a good choice. Something that "might" work is to call a few local motor repair shops and ask if they've got a used 3 ph 2hp motor laying around they'd sell at cheap price. I've ordered from AutomationDirect since they tend to have about the best price around on new IronHorse motors.

I don't' like those membrane buttons. I don't believe them to be as rugged as a physical toggle switch that I can change if I need to.
