I am a new member of this forum and new to knife making, so I am learning what you already know. I am looking at a 2" x 72" belt grinder and I like the looks of the AmeriBrade 272. Does this look like a good grinder to you?? Any suggestions or ideas would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

I'm new here as well, and am in the same boat as you looking for a 2 x 72. That particular one seems to be of solid construction and they use quality motors, however if you have the means I would suggest looking in to building one yourself. There are several different plans out there detailed on here and other sites. I have one designed and am going to start purchasing materials for roughly half the cost of that AmeriBrade with motor and VFD.

I don't have one but have heard good things. I believe Andy Roy bought a few of them and he liked them. He wanted something inexpensive that could take his KMG tool arms. I don't like springs for belt tension, and I don't like metal wheels on the platen, but otherwise it looks decent.

Ameribrade, reeder and kadmaskreations are good foot in the door chassis. I have the srg1.5 and no complaints so far

Okay, so what would you suggest??? And, for my education, what are these problems you refer to?? Thanks

I'm not sure the issues that the Count is talking about, but the OBM platen is flawed and needs to be modified to be used for knifmaking. They use a bent piece of metal that does not allow you to properly use the left side of the platen.

I also don't care for the plastic wheels. I'm told they make a lot of noise. For me, the wheels on platen should be contact wheels
