I need to upgrade my belt grinder and i want to go with the KMG but my onley question is this, how much does it weigh. i dont have a shop and so i stor my tools in the house and take them out side when i need them.. i want to make a wood box that has the motor inside and the grinder mounted on top. if the KMG is to large i might go to the coote but i dont know yet. i was thinking about just getting the coote but then i thought if i saved a little more i could get the kmg.

I don't have a KMG but my Uncle Al's 2x72 weighs enough (80-90 lbs)I would not want to be packing it around at all.

I have what I think is a 200 lb grinder. It has a heavy wooden table 4x4 and 1 inch lumber for the table and the grinder is mounted from the side . It can be a chore to move other than scoot from one place to another.Solution was go to Sears and get a mobile base. Roll out into the driveway from the garage close door with cord under door. Two whells lock - grind all day raise wheels roll back in garage. Base was about $70 . Worked for me. Mike

Build your base however you want and then you can get some 6" or 8" solid rubber casters from MSC or just about any farm supply store for $5-10 apiece. Then it will be easy rolling anywhere you want. I replaced the factory wheels on my roll around tool chest at work with 6" solid soft rubber wheels and made all the difference in the world. 200+ lbs. rolls nice and easy now.

the 2" x 72" with a 10" contact wheel the coote whighes 35 pounds plus say 25 lbs for motor thats 60 pounds which is not to bad. but i gess, do i want to pass on the lighter coote and keep saving till i can afford the kmg with a dc speed control and just keep limping along with my 1" x 31" hand held makita belt grinder with 1/4" L6 platin.

....yup, except I'd use locking casters so you can push on the grinder without moving the thing all around the room.

Once I put my KMG clone on it's bench (uprights are 2 battery trays from a whole-building UPS system. About 28" high, 8-10" wide and 24-26" deep, with three shelves, all about 3/16" steel, the motor shelf and top are 3/4" plywood) the whole shebang probably weighs upwards of 300lbs. Not great to move, but great that it doesn't move when I lean into it :) If I put it on wheels it'd be a breeze though.

JT, here are some numbers:

This stuff weighs about 105 lbs as pictured:

A quality motor will weigh about 35lbs.

The optional KMG-SUBP pre drilled mounting plate is another 50lbs.

So, a setup like this:

....will tip the scales at around 200lbs. Yes...for something like this, you will want to have it mounted on wheels if you need to move it around.

This is the stand that I use in my shop:

It has lock-able caster wheels so I can easily roll it around were I need it.

I hope this helps.
