I know this must have been done to death, but for toolmaking (chisels plane blades, axes) and the usual hollow ground knife stuff, what is the best machine no holds bared. Likes of the Baldor, true grit, kmi, grizzly.

Are there any definitive thread discusions, or site references.

I'm also interested in the make your own idea, but really I have so much on the books that probably isn't a good idea.

I should mention I already have all sorts of motors, including variable speed, so a machine that would allow me to use an existing motor would be good.

Also, I want a very clean cutting machine with the right geometry for best results, but I won't be going pro or anything like that, raw power isn't the only issue.

due to none of us haveing the money to own all possibe belt grinders, this will necessarily mean that we have always a limited test and compare sample to judge.

As far as I know, CONSUMER REPORTS, has never done a set of tests with different belt grinders going head to head...

This means that,,,"opinions and talent" hold much sway here....

However,,,,my guess is, that if you were to purchase the most expensive belt grinder as possible, you would most likely feel that you have the best grinder in the world, (Or at least for that kind of money you blew, you better make yourself "think" it was the best in the world)
