I am ordering an initial supply of belts for my Bader BII. Industrial Abrasives has a special going on their 2x72 aluminum oxide belts, buy 12, get 12 free. What grit sizes should I get and how many of each would you suggest in an order of 24? I don't know how quickly the roughing belts will wear out compared to the finer grits for finishing work. Ken

Ken,
For what it's worth, they were doing that special 15 years ago. Their belts are okay for woodworking but if you got a Bader, go for the good belts. 3M Regalloy or the Norton ceramics in the 50-80 grit range and Klingspor or 3M Trizact for the finer ones. Cheap belts will just make you feel bad about your grinding. Great belts will make you say, Wow, i can do it.

Ken,

Don't be like me and get short sited by purchasing bargain grinding belts. I found out the hard way, I was putting to much pressure when working and this caused more heat on my knife projects than I should of by burning handle material. I am a firm beleiver of better quality belts. I cast a vote for 3M belts.

longrange -Like Kit says, Norton, Klingspor or 3M. I also like Hermes belts. I have usually found the best prices at Tru-Grit.
