Belt movement on grinder

I have just purchased a new Ameribrade grinder and after carefully setting it up with help from my millwright brother I continue have 1/4 inch worth of movement when it is running. We reattached the drive wheel and squared it to no avail.
Is this much movement normal?

No, sounds like not enough belt tension.

I have never had a 2x72 so I wasn’t sure how tight it needed to be.

You should be able to pluck it like a guitar string.

Is the 1/4" belt movement all the time or just when a load is applied to the belt?

It was all the time. SBuzek told me to tight the belt up and I tried another belt and the movement is now very minimal.

Right?? I am continually amazed at how quick and generous these makers are with their hard earned knowledge on here. It is what makes the knifemaking community.
