Belt/pocket clip position on folder

Hi: I just got a new Kershaw Leek, my first nice folder. The pocket clip is reversible and I am trying to figure the pros and cons of which way the clip should be. As it came the blade point is down, which would seem safer if it opened in your pocket. This requires reversing the knife for use with 2 hands. Reversing the clip with the blade point up would enable one hand removal and opening. I guess its personal preference but any advice and thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

I like tip down because I find it a much more natural draw from the pocket.

Mostly it's personal preference. Try it one way for a week and another for the next. :)

It is mostly personal preference, though it is often asserted that tip-up is a little faster to open due to the knife being more naturally positioned in the hand.

I'm a tip-up guy, so for the sake of consistency I'm either selling my tip down knives or relocating the clips to the other end.

Tip up is the safest for pocket carry because the spine of the blade would rest along the seam of your pants which will not allow it to open.

Neither method should require you to use 2 hands.

Tip-down is safer if the knife DOES open, tip-up should prevent it from opening, because the spine of the blade will be against the edge of your pocket.

Personally I prefer tip-down, with the exception of my AO knives, which I carry tip-up, just in case.

Do what is comfortable and secure for you. Try it each way for at least a month, and decide. My EDC's seem to be tip down, my grail knives tip up. It usually takes a day or two making the transistion. I seem to prefer tip down.

As for the claim that one way is faster than another, it's hype. There is always plenty of time to use a blade in daily activities - in fact, a speed deployment is pretty much a great way to start exiting the current job. NOT PC at all. Combatives instructors always point out more important things than a split second in opening speed, like awareness, space, and leaving the scene. In other words, not using the knife at all.

Don't let a false idea of security compromise the discovery of which way you actually use the knife - the whole point is to keep from dropping it anyway.

Tip up right hand pocket, spine of blade against seam of pocket.
Tip down left hand pocket, spine of blade against seam of pocket. (cross draw for right hand/upside down opening for left hand)

That's how I roll.
