Just curious as to what you all do in terms of finishing belt progression. I have been doing my bevels with 60 to rough, then to 120 to get my bevel to where I want. With the lower grit belts my grind lines and plunges look great.

Once I move to finishing belts is where I usually end up chasing little mistakes and my bevel ends up higher on the blade than intended. After 120 I have typically been using a 220 Hermes ceramic J-Flex. I find that it cuts great for the first couple of passes and then tends to start to wash out. I have a couple Trizact belts that I may try as finishing, but I have found they haven't worked well for the rounded plunges.

What do you guys go with to finish your bevels?

higher grits, i use them to just remove the scratches from the previous grit. they die out quick if you do much shaping with them. my grit progression- 36, 60, 120, 220, 400, 800, 1000, 2000, 3000. maybe your machine is too fast.

80, 120, 400, 1200.
This is on folders and small fixed blades.

Maybe that's part of the problem. I have been trying to use 220gr to get the last little bit of bevel height/grind line shape and all it seems to do it create problems.

I am currently running my grinder at around 40% on the VFD (2HP Direct Drive) when grinding bevels. It's slow enough that I don't screw things up often, but can still remove material well enough. I've often thought that perhaps I'm not running fast enough with the ceramics.
