Belt sander grit

Hi,
I was hoping someone could give me some idea of what grit of sand paper they use when shaping their knife? Im very new to knife making so info would be much appreciated. Cheers

I like 36 or 60 grit to start out with. I’m usually making larger sized blades from 1/4in stock so your mileage may vary

^ What Bill said. Low number aggressive grit for profiling (shaping the outline), 100 and up for cleaning up to your desired level of finish.

I start at 36 and finish at 600
