So not to toot my own horn, but i am pretty good with a stone free hand. That said, i am a newbee on my 1x30 belt sander (harbor freight special).
I thought my SAR Warden would be a great canadate to work on. It is fatter than most (leaving some meat to repair for errors) and is currently a lesser expensive of the Wardens...
My goal was to recontour the grip just a bit, making a larger relief for my pointer finger, and maybe a little more rearward relief for the rear fingers (creating a greater lower belley). The other goal was to round the spine ala StreetScraper4.
-mistake 1. I practiced a good bit on hard cheap steals that removed very slow, so the first time i put the belt onto the INFI, i lost material way faster than expected.. I was going the way of toothpick trying to repair my first mistake.
-Mistake 2. not using enough care not to burn the point.
that said, the project went pretty well. I did what i wanted, then started over a few times to get the hang of the tool and the material. I ended up trying a semi tanto point and am fairly pleased with it. I know i could have dont better with the stone (and may finish that way) but this is what i have so far..
-I have no meadia blaster at this point, or buffer, so the finish is just a scotchbright pad for now... I will either go beadblast or DuraCoat in the future (I am setup to do DC here and thats easy enough, but with the yellow scales, bead blast i think would look killer)
-She is not done, but well on her way... tip is better in person, shadow added from flash kinda obscures it.
you may all laugh at me now..
