roy if you are talking about the small wheeled lay down grinder from texas knifemakers i would say the coote would would be the best choice and a rubber wheel by all means if you are going to buy one get a 2x72 belt size

All that is not Given Is Lost

Or you could just make your own 2x72 grinder like me

It'll save you a bunch....

Blade magazine stated in an artical a month or two ago that the Coote was the best two wheel grinder for the money, I own an 8"model with all of the attachments and it serves me well.

Roy;
www.grizzlyindustrial.com makes a Knife Belt Sander/Buffer, for $299.00 + s/h. I have two I use rough and medium grinding, and by the time you set up the one from Texas Knife and get it going, I think the price would be pretty close. Check out the site! Ironhorse

Roy,

Post the same topic over at Shop Talk to help you get more information. There have been some recent discussions on the Coote grinder. Also, do a search of Shop Talk and Shop Talk Archives for a plethora of information.
Here is the URL for one of the best homemade grinders I have seen: http://www.mstarling.com/The_Craft/Tool_Plans/_Belt_Grinder/_belt_grinder.html
Here is another by Wolf Berger. It's in German, but you should be able to get the general idea. http://www.wolf-borger-messer.de/maschin.htm#scharf
I have a Grizzly grinder. For the money, I have no complaints, but I did not experience many of the problems that other customers did. After doing a little work, mine works like a champ. I plan on getting another one without the motor and building it the way it should have been built.
Email me if you have any questions.

Brett
