Belt Segregation

Just beginning to work with "stainless" (440c so far).
How important is it to keep the belts seperate, and do any of you passivate- electro polish- so rust isn't an issue?

I use the same belts for stainless and carbon steel Damascus. You may see some "rust" - oxidation -forming on the 440C when grinding with the course belts but usually by the time you get down to say 400 grit before heat treating is doesn't show . After heat treat it will not be seen even if you grind with course belts. Frank

Thanks, Frank- not having had a chance to do a lot of testing, I wasn't sure what might show up down the road.
