Ben asked me to post his JS test knives he will be showing at Blade this weekend. I'm certain the judges will like what they see and Ben will return home with his JS stamp.

I believe you did an amazing job of not only executing your knives/design to a high level but coming up with designs that are 'just right' for presenting to the judges at this level.

You created knives that demonstrated your elevated level of skills however not so much to appear to be showing off. Your handles are very nice, which is where many JS applicants come up short. Your blade forging looks solid and your grinds are crisp. And your blade finishes appear to be top rate even though it's hard t tell in photos. Your guards seem to be uniform in shape and well finished and I like how you got a little fancy on a couple of your spacers just to show the judges that you can.

Good luck, even though it doesn't look like you will need any.
Chuck, very nice image as well!

No problems with those, beauties all! Congrats on that JS stamp.... ;) :D

These should fly through the JS test without ever slowing down Ben! VERY nice work :)

Thanks, y'all. It's been a ride...hopefully it's almost over. Kevin, I've tried to put out my best work, not the easiest. Jerry Fisk told me to do the best work 'Young Ben' can do. This is about the best I've got, right now. If all goes well in Atlanta, I'm looking forward to pushing the envelope farther, trying some new things, and hopefully getting better. I already have some ideas rattlin' around in my head that I'm hoping to be presenting at Little Rock in February.
See y'all in a few days!
Ben

Nice line-up, Ben.
You are right in the zone of what is expected. Plus a little! ;)
Very clean and they demonstrate that there was some thought behind the process, and not just a random tossing together of parts and pieces.
I like how they all seem to flow from one end to the other.
Ya' done good, son.

Ben, I hope I didn't imply that you made "easy" knives? I certainly didn't intend to. My point was that I feel you are wise in presenting beautiful, well executed ultra-clean knives as opposed to knives with hamons, carving etc.

Ben, Clean / well executed and very sexy. I think you are going to be a very happy man after Friday.

I didn't take it that way at all, Kevin...guess that came out wrong. Thanks for the complement, although these are easy in comparison with what my friend David Lisch does...and a whole lot of others!

Ben, you have come a long ways since we met in Little Rock in 2012. Through hard work, great determination, and obvious skills, you have really produced some great knives for your JS test this week in Atlanta. Chuck's image displays them well. I look forward to seeing you in a few days.

- Joe

Thanks Joe, I'm looking forward to hanging out with everybody again.
Ben
