Hi folks.

Some time ago I contacted Ben and asked him if he could make me a matching set of knives for collection at Blade.
I asked him to make me a small Oregonto and a larger Kraiken.
I love these two patterns particularly the Kraiken as developed by him and Joe Paranee with the slightly pronounced sori.

I sent Ben a nice bar of Vinland pattern Damasteel for the project and he just sent me the photos of the beginning of the build. There was enough Damasteel to also make two of his OSS daggers in different sizes.

I will be collecting these at Blade where I will meet Ben for the first time. Can't wait!:)

I'm looking forward to seeing this! Damasteel is some incredible stuff. The acid etch is a pain, though.

Progress....

Surface grinding the profiled blades.

I hard stamped these like I do all of the OSS models. I also milled a thumb/kydex detent.

Rough ground...

Finish ground and ready for HT. You can see the pattern peaking through.

The oregonto ground. The kwaikens are double ground and the daggers are chisel ground.

All the blades tucked in for HT. I put these in high temp foil and also fill the pouches with argon for an extra clean, oxygen free HT.

Fresh out of quench and ready to go into the liquid nitrogen.

They are looking awesome!! Those are going to be so beautiful when they are done!!

Thanks guys! Its been crazy busy and I am behind on pics, so here goes rapid fire!!

LN Cryo.

Polished and ready to etch.

Strong acid, means etching outside. This is my first time ever working with damasteel, so it's a learning experience along the way.

Oh baby!!

On to finishing the kwaikens. Swedges finish ground.

Finishing the bevels. These are super tricky to keep all the bevel intersections crisp on these. Even more so at higher grits.

Deep DC marking my logo before I etch the blade. This worked very well.

Here is the 6" kraiken ready to wrap. I can't get over how clean this steel is. Just unreal.

Those make a phenomenal set my friend....that Damasteel gets SHARP, too.
