I love this Benchmade 940-1! And I don't say that lightly. I seriously would give it 6 stars if that was an option.

I waited some time before I wrote this just to insure that my "love" was not merely infatuation.

I am a knife aficionado. I guess the boy in me still likes shiny sharp things. I own and use many knives. Most of them Chris Reeve Sebenza's. I do not believe in having a knife that you don't carry and are afraid to use for fear of "messing it up". I regularly carry and use even my high dollar exotic knives. Firm believer that if it is too nice to use, it is too nice to own.

Having said that there may be some knives that I "baby" a bit more than others. 😁 Not this one! I have used and abused it.

What's crazy is that I have not yet felt the need to sharpen it! Hooray for S90V steel! The carbon fiber scales are tough too! Keeps the weight down into minuscule territory. This knife keeps bumping others out of their turn in my rotation. That is saying a lot considering that some of them are many times over the cost of this knife.

I am not a knife snob, or a brand fanboy, that would tell you that this knife, or that knife, is the "best ever made anywhere by anybody". But I will tell you that this knife deserves a try in your pocket and your hands. Then you decide what it's best uses are. As for me, I use it on everything and everywhere.

There is only one thing that I discovered about this knife that I slightly disliked: the pocket clip. It is fine and functionary but fails to live up to the design and feel of the rest of the knife. It feels cheaper than this knife deserves. But who cuts things with a pocket clip anyway!

I did upgrade my knife with, IMHO, a better clip. One that I got from BladeHQ that is made of carbon fiber. Looks better and feels better to me. And as a bonus is a little bit lighter. Too each his own. Here is the link to the pocket clip I bought to replace the factory clip.

Kudos to Benchmade on this knife!

May I ask how that CF clip is working for you?
Reason I ask is I got a CF clip a while back (different to the one you link to) and it just didn't have enough tension for my liking, it didn't hold the knife securely enough in pocket.
I tried it on a 950 Rift, then the lighter 943, but it just didn't clip securely to the pocket like the steel clip does.

And yeah, the 940-1 is sweet isn't it. I put a split tail clip on mine and really like that, though a CF clip on it would be real nice provided it works as well as the steel one.

I've been considering getting one of St. Clair's cf clips as well. The stock clip just looks out of place with all that sweet carbon fiber :)

I held a 940-1 today for the first time. I can't believe how light this thing is--it feels like you're holding a bic ballpoint pen, that's how light it feels. The one I looked at and really really wanted to buy had a perfect grind and was perfectly centered. When I can swing $270 for another knife I'll be picking one of these up pronto!

I just bought a new 940-1 yesterday and I also was amazed at how light they are.

Will be looking into a carbon fiber clip also. Thanks for sharing the link!

Nice. I sold one because I had too many knives, missed it too much so I just ordered a new one. This time with the carbon fiber. I'm looking forward to a reply on how that carbon fiber clip works too.

I can understand why some people don't like the stock clip! It's a bit clunky compared to the rest of the knife. But....if it's in your pocket all day every day....that clip takes a beating better than most. Also, I tried out the
Deep carry clip that benchmade has on the contego model but it made it feel weird in hand....the handle suddenly felt twice as wide! Maybe a custom ti clip would work for me but I've heard enough about carbon fiber clips to stay away from them for my favorite work knife. The benchmade pretty much lives in my uniform. And the clip suits me fine.
It isn't the best performing edged tool I own but it's often the only one I have on me and that's what counts when you need it.
