Bench vise for profiling

I bought this cheap vacuum base grinder from Lowe's and it worked great for about 5 minutes then it falls off. I need a good vise that hangs over the edge of a worktable so I can grind the shape with an angle grinder. Here is a picture of what I need.

And here is a link to the best I can find from google. Is this the only option? Surely someone else has a need for such a device.

If your putting it on that wood table it is probably losing vacuum because wood is not air tight. Put a metal plate down for the vise to adhere to and it may work just fine.
If this is not the case then accept my apology in advance, just going by your posted picture.

Just use a couple of two dollar clamps to clamp the steel to a piece of wood and the wood to your table.

Or, if you don't mind permanent mounting you can bolt a cheap drill press vise to the side of a bench like I did. I use it mostly to hold a bench pin but it comes in handy for other things too.
This pic shows both setups on my bench.

If you really like the vise you have, why not get the same thing in a screw down base. The vise is called a Panavise. You can get them at most hobby shops and there are thousands on Ebay, etc.
A lot of makers use one for handle sanding and file work.

You don't even need a new vise.....You can change the base on the one you have. Or, like Joe suggested, clamp a piece of smooth material (metal, granite surface plate, piece of Formica counter top, etc.) to the bench top and put your vacuum grip on that. A wipe down of the rubber cup and the surface with a damp cloth will make the grip stronger.

Great suggestions. It is indeed a wooden desk, compressed wood with Formica. I'll try the metal surface first. Thanks
