I am looking into buying a BM rift. I am just looking for some thoughts and opinions on the knife. I want it for my EDC. I would like a mutli function blade as well. What I mean by this, is a knife to gut a deer, butcher a fish, fillet duck breasts, use around the campsite, cutting bait and running bank lines. Just to be clear I almost always carry different knives for what I am doing but once in awhile, for whatever reason, I just need my EDC for such tasks.

Thanks

P.S. I am open to other suggestion and I realize that a lot is personal preference. I was hoping someone here had the same knife and could provide some feed back.

I switch off between my CF Rift and Izula for EDC.

The Rift is my favorite folder so far. I love the blade shape, and find the axis
lock to be very useful. If there is any Benchmade I would recommend, it would be the Rift.

I have a lot of confidence in this knife, and I think you will be very happy having one.

Were you thinking about the grey/black G10?

I found the cutouts along the top that make the G10 look so cool also dig into your palm during hard cutting.

The 950 rift is a great blade, but not one for me. For some reason, I didn't like the wide stout blade (doesn't complement the reverse tanto imo).

Have you tried looking at the TSEK 805-1101? It's a limited run that's available right now that I think is a fantastic blade. I think it was a drop point design with M390 steel which is pretty good for the price it's going at.

However, don't get me wrong. The 950 is a fantastic knife (carried mine for a good two months).

I love my Rift, to your point, I have used mine for gutting and skinning deer, whittling wood, etc. I did find that the scales on the top side do dig into your palm a little during rough cutting. I rounded mine out a little with sandpaper and it is absolutely perfect now. Nice big blade that you don't even know is in your pocket.

Cool knife, but sold it off... although thinking of buying another one :-)

It is pretty easy to get that thin hollow grind nice and sharp. Great slicer. The G10 edges were very sharp so I knocked them down with ceramic stone. It's a wide/chuncky feeling folder and just a touch heavy in my opinion. The little 'bump' on the handle towards your ring finger grip is a bit out of place for me.

I've got the black/gray rift and it's an awesome knife. Built like a tank and very smooth to open due to the axis lock. I would edc it more often, but it's a bit heavy in the pockets for me. Wish the liners were hollowed out.

Now that you mention it I have heard elsewhere about the edges being "sharp" but you think that those can be rounded fairly easy?

The Rift is my favorite Benchmade. I use it for all the reasons you asked. I am a hardcore bow hunter. The Rift is a perfect edc/hunting knife. I like the 154cm steel. I can get mine ridiculous sharp.

Looks like a nice knife to me, but I prefer Axis locks to be manual, so you can flip it closed easily. I'd go with the 940 series or 710 over this one.

This Rift is manual.

The Rift is a good candidate for the tasks mentioned. The handle may or may not agree with you, particularly for skinning or dressing a deer, so if you can try before you buy, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

I thought it was assisted...

This is bizarre. I was just going to post the same type of thread as I got a 950 today! This knife is honestly my favorite folder. It's handle thickness is thinner then you think From knife vids, it looked much thicker then it is. I thought it was around the same thickness as a Griptilian but it's much thinner. Go for it, you won't regret it;)

Thanks again everyone. Yes I want the manual. I went down to our only Benchmade dealer and handled one. I see what you mean about the "sharpen edge" but overall I like the feel of it. I think I will end up getting it. I do like the large blade and the length seems to be about right for most of my task. Thanks again.
