Hi all - new to Bladeforums but seems like a great source of info! I've been strongly considering picking up one of the newer Rant models, specifically the 10502 DPT as I'm in the market for a good all around affordable stainless steel fixed blade camp/survival knife that is moderately thick in the blade. My question is about the grind on this particular knife as I've come across conflicting details. The flip-through digital online catalog says hollow ground, but the new product announcement PDF (linked from the product description on the website) says flat ground. I've emailed Benchmade twice now and haven't heard back. I then called and one rep told me hollow ground, the other said flat ground (the latter was much more confident haha). Don't see them as an option on the manufacturer forum here. Anyways, any input is greatly appreciated, be it about the grind or just about this knife in general, or any others that may be good options for what I'm seeking! So far reviews I've seen have been quite good esp at this price point, and maybe the grind shouldn't be my deciding factor anyway, although I'd prefer a flat ground blade. Thanks in advance !

Welcome to bladeforums. :) I just checked my 10502 and I would call it a high flat grind, meaning the grind goes up to about 3/4 the height of the blade.

There was an earlier model of the Rant that was imported, and it may have been hollow ground. This may be the reason for the confusion.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tom, I really appreciate it. Overall you happy with the knife and would you recommend it? Benchmade's 440C hold its own and stand up to some abuse? Any thoughts on the sheath would be appreciated, as I've heard the belt loop is kind of tight. Thanks again!

I have not put the Rant to much use so I cannot personally comment on the edge holding, but Benchmade's 440c has a good reputation.

As far as the sheath goes, it is a very good quality leather sheath. The belt loop is tight on a 1 1/2" belt, but it holds it very securely. It certainly won't flop around.

The Rant is a pretty good value when you consider the $50-$60 price range that it commonly sells for.
