Benchmade 10505 Rant DPT Pardue fixed blade

Someone in the german speaking forum gave a review. In short: It came dull and had a slight hollow ground. But beside that it was a very good piece of knife all in all, not only compared to the money.

I mean compared to the priece you will find a piece of s..t acceptable. You definatly get much more than that. ;)

Thanks Blop,

I don't like that came dull :( , I was sure all BM knives are very sharp out of the box. It seems that Red line made in Taiwan doesn't have the same level of quality like the US made.

Would like anyway to hear from somebody who used this knife.

Thanks,
Ed

Mine came pretty sharp.

Very comfortable kraton handle, very grippy.
No problems with hollow grind, it cuts very well.

Nothing to bleat on finish.

But there is nothing "tactical" in it - it's a light knife for cutting and it does it very well. I didn't try to chop with it, but I think it would be not the best idea for so thin blade.

Sheath - well, it is OK.

IMO - in general, very good quality for this money.

Something else? I don't know, ask me if You are interested in any details.

I got my FIL the Rant Bowie. He really likes it. His came in 440C. He uses it for lite to medium stuff. Holds a good edge. Picked it up for about the same price as the Buck 692 Vangard.

Just bought one of these and haven't had a chance to do a whole lot with it yet.

To all appearances it seems to be quite a solid general purpose fixed blade. I like the handle shape most of all. It's quite comfortable and is very hand-filling without being too contoured. The blade shape is nice as well.

The pommel is held on with a hex cap head screw but it seems as if it would work well for light or medium duty hammering. The screw allows disassembly of the handle, which would be a nice thing if you needed to replace the handle for whatever reason.

The sheath is pretty minimalist and the blade rattles around in there a bit too much for my taste but it doesn't look as if it'd be a problem. Mine says N960 on the blade and it was decently sharp out of the box.

For the money I like it quite a bit.

Thanks to everybody. I got rather clear picture so could make a desision that this one is not expensive general purpose knive. It seems that my next order will include 10505.
Thanks again,
Ed

BTW not long ago all german production knifes came dull, cause the manufacturers thought, every knife user is able to get an edge on it by himself / herself.

I often hear, that BMs (red or blue line) came dull. For example the 220, i´ve heard twice. Never get one BM knife dull myself and i get nearly ten. All mine were sharp or just needed to be stroped.

No reports of a minor production - quality about the red line. Don´t get me wrong. They are made easier, less detailed, but strong, as i have heard.

I just purchased one of these (N690 blade Rant), and mine came razor sharp out of the box. Everything about it seems well made, and comparable in quality to any other knife I won (Kershaw Blackout & Scallion, CRKT, Gerber, Leatherman Wave, etc.). Handle is very comfortable, blade cuts well (I won't use this for chopping, that's what a hatchet is for...). My knife fits perfectly in the sheath, no rattling or looseness.

Just because it's assembled or manufactured in Taiwan doesn't mean it's poor quality. Overall I'm VERY happy with my red-class Benchmade Rant.
