Hello gentlemen:

I was wondering if anyone has any experience and opinions on the Benchmade 10700 Nagara. I have only seen pictures of it, but I really like the way it looks, plus the price is acceptable. However, I read it is made in China.

Anyone own one or handled one? How is the quality, fit & finish? Is the steel good? How about the lock? Would you recommend it or not?

Any feedback appreciated. :)

I've only heard good things about it. I've owned some of benchmade's red class knives and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I would say buy one of you can handle it first, or have the dealer inspect it first before mailing it out.
I bought one and had to go through two of them to find one that had 0 play.
It is a nice knife for the money.

Why would a Ti scaled knife need dual steel liners? That irks me.

The one I handled in the store was very smooth and seemed to have excellent F&F.

it needs the liners because if the nature of the lock.

and to the OP: I have one and the fit and finish is very good. the steel is very easy to sharpen and holds and edge pretty well because of the edge geometry.

Ok, the general consensus seems to be that it is a quality product. I'm glad to hear it is smooth and sharpens easily.

I think I will go ahead and buy, but I will make sure I get one with no kinks. (bladeplay and such).

This makes me happy, because I love the look of it.

Thanx to all for your opinions! :)

Let us know how it performs please. I also was looking at those.

The Cons and Pros of my experience.
On average I've seen this knife for $70 shipped and I picked mine up for $50 shipped, I would not pay more than $50 for this knife.

CONS: I am a bit disappointed with the Nagara. But this is probably because I put it in a medium use edc role. The coating on the scale scratches easily, talking the first time carried the knife 30 minutes into work. Don't know how, but it happened. Also the blade steel [9cr13] was considerably dull after just a bit of medium use ie. cardboard boxes. You may all agree, but I think it's purely a gentlemen folder. Finish of the scales also gets odd blotches from the natural oils of the hand. [maybe just me] For a $70 made in china folder seems a bit much to begin with considering you can get some very good folders for the same price with far superior materials.

PROS: Ok after bashing the knife I have to show the bright side. Although I was very unhappy having the scales scratched and the blade dull after the first day of use, it is a very solid knife. Feels good in the hand. The Fit and Finish is outstanding. It is SUPER smooth. It locks up tight. It's very flickable. The blade has a beautiful polish and awesome shape. It's a long blade in a small package. The Nac Lock is a very interesting innovation. It's light and does look "gentlemenly".

For me you are paying for the quality fit and finish NOT a quality "use" product. For envelopes and string sure, but as soon as it touches card board it's over.

Overall I would not sell or trade mine, because I do love the knife, but only for it's F&F and light use capabilities.

Thank you

This is the best review I've seen of this knife.

I picked one up for my sister for in her purse/pocket. The Nak lock works great for girls with fingernails apparently. Only real gripe I had with it was that the closed retention on hers wasn't quite there, but it was smooth as silk. It does have one heck of a point on it, my grandmother thought it looked deadlier than my izula.

Lock was solid with no play, very easy to use. Scales were shaped evenly with no gaps, hardware is different looking, classy (pivot screw mostly, standoffs were nice too though)

Overall a really nice knife especially for the clearance price i paid for it, top of the blade is polished by the way, really points to the little details benchmade hit with these. Wouldn't call it a hard use folder (or tough enough for a hard EDC like mine usually see) but its a nifty gents(or lady's) knife

I like mine. It's very stylish and has good ergonomics. It has sort of a gentleman's knife feel and is very smooth. I haven't really used it for much so I can't speak to edge retention or durability.
