Title pretty much says it.

I'm looking for a general purpose fixed blade. Real world usage would be recreational outdoors, camping, etc. No extensive backpacking.

Cost is not that much of an issue for a single knife and I have a softspot for Benchmade so that is the direction I am heading.

On the other hand, in the back of my mind, I'm contemplating setting up an emergency kit/bug out bag/survival kit/etc. which would result in the purchase of at least two knifes.

So two questions:
1. Leaving cost out of the equation: Which would you pick?
2. If cost was an issue: Which would you pick?

Thanks,
don.

A Ka-bar is about $40 and the Benchmade 156 $80 at most?

If not minding the cost, the Benchmade for sure. It's D2, but I think it'll be tough enough for my style (considering the overall design).

As for costs, I don't think it's a big difference if you use it and like it. It only ends up being expensive if you don't get value from it. For cacheing away, I don't think I would buy two of those. How about one of Benchmade, Kabar, and throw in something else like Cold Steel Bushman. With 3 blades, you can rotate two for your bags and use one based on your preference.
