Some complain it's too big, too heavy, too bulky. I've heard that it's a sharpened pry bar, and sucks at slicing.

Blasphemy! Mine glides right through paper like air. Here's my really short review.

Fit and finish-

Very good, to be expected from Benchmade. Almost dead center, a little off but that can be fixed. Solid lockup. Super buttery smooth opening.

Ergonomics-

Pretty good for a knife the size of a brick. The huge handle provides easy grip, and the jimping really locks it into your hand.

Steel-

D2. Pain in the ass to sharpen. Holds an edge for a very long time though, and I use this knife with no hesitation. It does and does and does then comes back for more. The Axis lock and the thick handles/ blade just make it a tank of a knife.

Value-

For around $130- $150 depending on where you look, you get a .160" thick slab of D2 tool steel hardened to 60-62 RC, 3.82" long. It weighs in at 7.7 ounces, and the G10 scales are thick (unknown thickness), jimped, and machined for weight reduction. Choice of tan or black G10.

Overall, this knife is worth every penny. It's really heavy duty, but disappears in my pocket, and can handle whatever you throw at it. Also, it's damned handsome.

If they ever make a smaller version of this, I'd be all over it. Good review!

Well, I just put my Adamas away after admiring her for awhile. I cannot dispute any of your evaluations CJZ. Your review of the big 275 revealed each of her attributes to a T. The only caveat being that it's girth makes it less than ideal for the small handed. Long Live the Adamas.

Just a very short review.... If I could only have one folder, this would be it. The very practical field/defensive drop point blade is probably one of the most all-around useful blade designs. The fit and finish on this knife is top-notch and the quick and stout deployment of the Axis lock is definitely one of the strongest systems available; combine that with the D2 blade steel and you have one heavy duty blade designed to survive serious abuse.

I noticed that one reviewer indicated he did not receive the black G-10 version of this knife - as advertised. I did, so don't let that review dissuade you if the black version is what you are after. Be forewarned, this is a heavy, thick knife and is more suited to military EDC than civilian; so check out the advertised weight and dimensions if you are considering it for EDC, however it does ship with a black cordura type belt pouch, if you are so inclined to use it.

FWIW, I think in general shape and design, the Adamas folder is very similar to the Bark River Bravo 1.

Good review. I sold mine, but it was a fantastic knife, pocket clip sucked. Heavy as a rock. I carry a ZT 301 now edc, i know heavy too, but thinner with a great pocket clip. Feels great in the hand. will chop up a Buick.
