For sale is a Benchmade 42-400 for only $399. This particular model is serial #100/125 (but only 115 were released to the public). The blade is D2 steel, zen pins, spring latch, and pocket clip. This was also publicized as having a glass breaker tool on the tip of the tang.
The handles are all titanium (of course) and while this was carried and flipped, it has only two scratches. Since I received it (I am second owner) I have sent it back to Benchmade for some lovin' from the factory, once I received it back from Benchmade it went into an Pelican case and has stayed there since.
Since I don't use it for flip it, I've decided to sell it. The edge that Benchmade gave it is useable, but you needn't worry about it slicing your finger to the bone. I didn't touch it up since it's such a particularly rare knife I wanted to keep it as is. The blade near the markings has a slight stain in the metal (D2 isn't stainless), it is ever so slight, you can't see it unless it's at a certain angle with a certain light.
The previous owner did carry it, so I won't say it is in new or mint condition, it has been cared for, though. It is an 8 out of 10 as far as condition. There are two scratches, one near the zen pins and one near the pocket clip.
While the 42 isn't completely discontinued, this model certainly is. This is the perfect setup for a daily balisong carrier, the pocket clip and spring latch are perfect and a rare find as it is. In conjunction with the zen pins this balisong is maybe the most perfect balisong (at least version of the 42) that Benchmade produced. You would be remiss if as a balisong enthusiast if you missed out on this opportunity for only $99 more than what a regular boring 42 is going for.
