I am somewhat new to blade forums but I have a few questions on the new BM 42's. I apologize if they have already been asked.

1. When you order a BM42 does it come in plain titanium and you have to anodize it your self (send it away yourself) or does BM-42a mean it comes anodized? If yes, do you get a choice of color?

2. Is 12C27 good steel? How would you say it compares to other steels? Why did BM decide to use it?

Thanks for the help!

To help answer your steel question, here's a nice-looking chart with some common knife steels.. http://agrussell.com/steel/index.html

They all have to come to a compromise between the ability to hold an edge and the ability to resist rusting.. Basically, the higher the carbon content, the harder (and more brittle) the steel is.. the higher the chromium content, the more rust resistent it is (over 14% is considered "stainless steel" I think).. I don't think 12C27 is all that great, but it does beat the crap out of 420.. As far as I'm concerned, ATS34 rules.

The 42a is anodized...it's a whole mess of colors..it's kindof a mix of orange, pink, yellow...etc...it isnt a solid color..

ATS34 is god...

My 42A color is pretty close to blue. It has alittle yellow and green tint to it but very small. If you look at it fast it just looks blue.

OK thanks, so does that mean that they will come in one standard anodizing and if you want it different you have to send it back to BM? Or will there be several colors to choose from? Also will you be able to get it in plain non-anodized titanium?

-To any one that has used 12C27, in you opinion how well does this steel hold an edge?

-Lastly how functional are bailsong knifes? I know they are cool but how much do you guys use your for actual "work"?

Thanks for all the help!

The anodizing looks cool, but to be honest, I like the look of the plain TI.

As for the "using it" question......... I use my Balisong everyday. They're the best WORK knives i've ever used. There are so many different things you can do with them.

Check the link to see some of the uses I've found.
