Hello,
After buying my first Benchmade I decided to buy another, I liked the quality and design of the first one (585-2) so I figured another one would be a safe bet. I'm not really a brand guy I just like quality stuff. If they're quality ever goes south I'll look else where. I have never owned any of its competitors. I have owned a few Gerber, Kershaw, CRKT, etc. while decent knives (Some) they're in a different ball park (price and materials reflect that).
I ordered this one about 6 months ago, I wanted to try an M390 blade and I really liked the look of this knife. It arrived and I immediately put a 30 degree edge on it and honed it until its cut paper smoothly. No fit or finish issues and blade centered perfectly.
The blade holds an edge really well, it's not difficult to sharpen and the point is sharp as a tack. I really like the Axis lock, this knife can easily open and close with one hand. The thumb stud is well positioned and I like the serrations on the back of the blade. The long curve fits perfectly to my pointing finger resting on top of the blade for delicate cutting. My thumb fits nicely on the curve at the back when I am doing heavier cutting.
The open design of the frame makes it difficult for dirt and debris to get trapped inside. This knife gets lots of use, as you can see in the picture. I absolutely love the finish and contour of the G10 scales, it follows the contour of the frame perfectly and there is no position where it is not comfortable.
I really like the design, fit and finish of this knife. If they ever produce an assisted or auto version (not likely) of this knife I'll buy it. This knife is in my rotation 3 days a week or more. I will update this review every few months.
Any questions or comments are welcomed, thanks for reading.
TJ
Edit- I forgot to mention the value of this knife, in general its a little on the high side, personally I think its well worth it, if you get a chance to handle one do it! I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thanks for reading.
