first of all i wanna say yes, im stupid for flipping on concrete. i was so excited when i got my new balisong it never leaves my hand...including when i go out for a smoke, still flipping :/ yesterday i was flipping, and looking back on it, im an idiot for trying aerials on concrete, but the blade smacked edge first on the ground and now it needs to be touched up. its not extremely bad, but bad enough. it feels like theres burrs on one particular spot and if you look closely one part by the belly of the blade is pretty rough.

my question is can i fix this up by just sharpening it up again or do i need to use my diamond stone then my arkansas stone, or more work than that. i know how to sharpen knives but i dont wanna screw this up more than it already is...its d2 steel too btw

thanks for the advice in advance

Whatever you do, you're going to have to keep doing it until the ding is gone. Simple as that. Diamonds would be preferred since they'll cut faster. A belt sander would probably do you even better, if you have one and know how to use it.

ouch yeah thats what i figured i had to do...ugh this is gonna be a pain lol..i guess its a lesson learned

Yep, it's a pain but I've got deep chips out of S30V (I think BM D2 is easier than their S30V) using diamond rods on a SharpMaker and 100x's faster with an x-coarse DMT Diafold (medium pressure strokes). You might pull off the D2 with just a coarse diafold, depending on the edge.

Be more careful - but I doubt you need that advice right now. Sharpen 'em out and you'll be ready to rock n roll again. ;)

Got any pics for us?

yeah sorry about that...i was gonna post a pic but i wasnt sure if it would be much help..heres the pic:

im not sure if you can make it out but if you look closely, towards the belly you can see a lil bit of the jagged edge. im not too sure if itll make that much of a difference to the blades edge, but i started to resharpen it SLOWLY. this is my first knife over 100 and im sure its not that big of a deal to some but a 200+ dollar knife having chips in the blade is a scary thing especially when its my edc/tactical blade lol

but yeah ill start sharpening the knife again and uupdate you guys on how it goes...btw i have a smiths sharpening kit, will the diamond stone be good enough to fix it up?

That'll sharpen right out of there real easily if you do a little sharpening. Not nearly as bad as I had in mind last night. ;)

as cziv said, no problem...
I used dmt stones and the strops on mine and got the result you can read about in this review thread of mine: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=774296

looks like you'll be fine going at it with a coarse stone and going up to a finer grit once the edge is restored.

Hey zyhano. Is that flippping butterfly in your thread a double edge?? Your pics made me think it was. It looks dangerous to anyone including the owner.

Nooo, definitely not ;) I'm not into that stuff..
It's just shiny and unsharp in the picture probably
thanks for the implicit warning though

hey thanks zyhano! yeah i def saw your review already...very nice. im still looking to get a 42 EVENTUALLY if i ever come across it, but im actually afraid of getting one now cuz i dont want this to happen to a rarer knife like a 42...i take a lot of risks flipping lol

also its been quite some time...excluding the fact the 42 is rare, and if both the 51 and 42 were the same price...which one would you choose?

I'm not really a flipper, so I'm not the one to advise you.

But if you want my opinion I'll give it. I got them both for the same price :) new, a real bargain. I like the 51 better, it's more refined with the g10 and anodized titanium. doesn't make as much sound, is lighter to carry and can be used with the pocket clip.

Though I like them both, I don't have the balisong history a lot of guys have and have no specific place in my heart for the 42 as a lot of experienced guys seem to have. Not worth the 400+ bucks they seem to go for at the moment.. well, maybe not worth.. not sure :D
