I am wanting to get a heavy-use folder in the 3.5" blade range. I dig the ergonomics of the 527, but not so much for the plastic scales. I am thinking I want to get a full size presidio, but I think this time I might want to shell out the coin for an aluminum scaled version. What do you think? Worth the $150ish?

Most ppl. prefer G10 over aluminium.

Are $150,00 worth the bigger knife with aluminium scales?

Don´t know.

But, is the 520 a great knife? Yes, it is. It is solid, a bit on the heavy side, with a great ergonomic handle.

The mini versions (i have had one in hands for short) are great small knifes too.

If the Bone collector´s 15020 version features a flat ground blade, i would have a look on them too.

The Bone Collectors I've seen in pix are sort of flat saber ground. Nice looking blade profile and D2 to boot. Definitely worth considering if you like the Presidio handle size and shape.

I started using mine in earnest recently after leaving it in a drawer for many moons. I was pretty scared of using such an expensive blade. Once I got used to the axis lock, it was a really nice knife to use - smooth as anything, solid lockup, feels fantastic in the hand...

And then one of the omega springs in the Axis lock snapped. :grumpy:

Back to Benchmade she goes...

Long story short, I have serious doubts that it was worth the price tag for my uses, but for the time I used it, it seemed like a great blade.

I like the 520 so much, I ended up getting two of them!!

I really like the design. It is my goto EDC. I carry it in my front pocket with the clip (blue jeans).

I also have a 943 that I use if I want/need something lighter & smaller.

You can pick them up used sometime and save quite a bit of money. It's such a strong and durable knife, I'm not as worried about buying a used one. Both of mine were bought on the used market. One from a forum member, one on FleaBay. I got a better deal from the forum member.

My 520 is my work knife. It is a heavy tank like everyone says but it's super solid and dependable. I don't have any problem with the aluminum scales. I find them very ergonomic and grippy. I think they are much nicer than the plastic scales on the Presidio Ultra. They do get little silver marks when it gets dinged but I think that looks good on a user knife.

I definately think it's worth the extra money. You get a way more solid handle and better blade steel with a better grind.

I havn't had any problems with the springs in any of my axis lock knives in the 3 years I've been using them. But if you do Have any trouble BM will fix it right up for you.

Sounds like you described the Manix 2.
