Hope this hasn't already been delt with, searched for it and couldnt find anything. Does anyone own or sell the Benchmade 523 Presidio Tanto and can tell me that the blade measures less than 3". In the benchmade catalog it says 2.97 but when you do real life measurements I swear it's longer.....anyway, I live in North Las Vegas, they're really strict here on gun and knife laws, don't want to get caught with an illegal weapon and can't ask a cop for the fear of getting arrested on the spot.

I have a 525 (same knife, but not a tanto - can't stand 'em), and the blade is exactly 1/32" shy of 3 inches in length. And, since 1/32" = .03125", 2.97" is right on the money (3 - .03 = 2.97).

Actually the 525 and 523 are not the same knife. The 525 (2.97" blade) is the "mini" version of the 520 (3.42" blade). The 523 is the "tanto" version of the 520.

The blade length of 2.97" for the 523 on the Benchmade site is a misprint. It is actually about 3.5". I measured mine and it is a "hair" under 3.5". Stick with the 525 if it has to be under 3".

Thanks mlot51. I wondered because it not only says it on their site but it says it in the new 2006 catalog.

I was hoping it wasn't a small tanto.

Good to know :)

No Problemo! I would like to see a "mini" 523 though! I guess we could call it the 528?

FYI, I emailed Benchmade, and they already updated the blade length of the 523. Website now states 3.42".

I was afraid of that, I'm glad I asked, goddamn benchmade, I already spent $200 on the knife and now I can't carry it!!!!! I've had it for a week so I can't return it. This really makes me mad. :( :( :( :( :( :(

That's the one I have, and recommend highly.

My mistake, I thought the 523 was the size of the 525.

If it turns out you don't want to keep it, either sell it to a forumite, or post it on eBay (probably the most financially sound move).

Please tell me there's no length limit for carrying a pockey knife in Las Vegas or North las Vegas. I heard it was 3", which would exclude my aforementioned knife, but Nevada law doesn't mention a length, I think there's some city law tho. Does anyone know for sure, I tried to find it on the city website but had no luck.

Im no lawyer, but I think youre outta luck-

This is how I found it-

So that means I can't carry a concealed blade over 3" right, so if I clip it on my pocket so the end is showing I should have a 3.42" blade but it's not concealed, does anyone know if that's right?

That's where interpretation of the law comes in, and what constitutes concealment. You'll need to contact some lawyers (several, not just one, in order to get a feel fot the general consensus). The cops are not an accurate resource when it comes to things like this.

The problem seems to be that Las Vegas considers any knife with a blade over 3" to be a "Dangerous or deadly weapon"

Thats not good.:(

Henceforth...

Once again, I am no lawyer, so you might want to take puukkoman's advice. Try calling couple on the phone and see if you can get any answers. They probably wont be the ones you are looking for, but Good Luck anyway!
