I received a BM 527 in Combo Edge from Hondo66 great trader btw. I have to say that I'm really impressed with the knife. The handle fits my hand better than a mini-grips in comparison. Scales are a little too textured but that's ok.
I'm also a huge fan of 440C. I somehow always try to pick up knives with "meh" steels to see if what people say are true about it or not. And to date I have found no truth in why people don't like 440C. The 440C used in the Benchie has very decent edge retention and sharpens quite easy.
Additionally not all combo-edged knives are created equal. There's a lot of dislike about combo-edges and I also thought they were kind of meh after keeping a Home Depot special in my car for "emergency" use. That said the serrated edges on the Benchmade as well as transition to pe on the Mini-presidio is excellent. I mean really excellent. They designed the plain edge section to drop down a little more than the serrated portion so that you can use the plain edge portion for when you need a plain edge. The serrated edge portion is super useful! Benchmade has a very nice se pattern. I cut through several cardboard boxes this weekend and cleaned up my hedges with the help of a hedge trimmer and the Mini presidio. The serrated section basically cut through 1/8-"1/4" green branches by just applying a slight downward pressure. Whereas the plain edge section took a little bit of effort to saw through the branches.
I don't know how a combo edge would work out for normal EDC use as I use a slijoint for that. But for around the house kind of things its an excellent choice in its utility and I highly recommend. If you get a chance you should try out a combo edge in various scenarios and see if it works out for you. Anyone else EDC'ing a combo-edge.
Sorry for the misleading title btw!
I'm looking forward to keeping this one in the stables.
